SON Invests in School for Children with Special Needs

In Memory of Anna

Recently, Salem Outreach Network helped a family honor the memory of their daughter by finding just the right home for her lightly used medical equipment. This gift was made possible by a generous donation from Bill and Debbie Rettew in memory of their daughter, Anna Elisabeth Rettew. The Rettew’s donated more than $12,000 worth of Anna’s medical equipment to the SON. The SON found the perfect candidate for Anna’s equipment through The Special Children’s School in Winston-Salem, NC.

Kurt Feldmeyer remarks, I wish you could have been there with me to see the joy, amazement and gratitude on the faces of the staff as my daughters and I unloaded the trailer full of this valuable medical equipment. Everyone wanted to know where it came from, who gave it and all about Anna. Several of them were moved to tears or stunned silence as I told them of the Rettew family’s call to serve children with special needs and others without a good home.

You see, Anna wasn’t the only Rettew family member that had special needs. Over the years, they have adopted and cared for 12 children with special needs. They currently have nine children living with them ranging in age from six months to 21 years old. Their children have a variety of challenges like Down’s Syndrome. Others have simply been abandoned by their parents and have found a loving home with Bill and Debbie.
