Families in Crisis

  Hurricane Color scan0071 India 124 (2)

Salem Outreach Network assists victims of natural disasters in the United States and abroad. Through our partner ministries, we provide: crisis care kits, hygiene kits, food supplies, Bibles, and volunteers to aid in the clean up and rebuilding of damaged structures and pray for families in crisis. We also provide training in financial stewardship and budgeting classes for families struggling to make ends meet by teaching Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University.

Our heart for crisis care and disaster relief was born in the year 2000 after devastating earthquakes ravaged El Salvador. In partnership with a local church, we responded to a call for help from a missionary to help him get relief supplies to the quake victims in the hastily set up refugee camps. We became immersed in the amazing outpour of love, concern and donations that the community flowed through this church. In just a few weeks the church was able to gather enough supplies to fill three tractor trailers. Next, they drove the trucks from Winston-Salem, NC all the way to the refugees in El Salvador. We were a part of a team that flew down to organize and disperse these supplies.

This experience solidified our burden for families in crisis and those caught in disasters. Since then, Salem Outreach Network has responded to other disasters. We have provided clothes, toys, food and spiritual counsel to families whose homes have burned down. We have helped families who faced the sudden death of a loved one. We partnered with other ministries to help people rebuild after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We have helped raise money and offered administrative consulting to new ministries.

Scriptural Mandate

The Bible clearly states that we should help our brothers and sisters in the Lord, but it also informs us to help the stranger, orphan and widow.

Galations 6:10

“So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

Psalm 82:3-4

“Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless, maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

James 1:27

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Salem Outreach Network is planning for the future and working to expand our capacity and volunteer base. Our goal is to establish relationships with other ministries and train teams that are ready to go when called upon.
